Goodbye Seattle, Hello Durham

1 min read

The moment I learned I was moving to Seattle, I couldn’t sleep. I laid awake in excitement, marveling at how interesting this place is.

Looking back, it’s been an amazing ride living in Seattle. I married Mary, graduated from college, started a career I love, adopted my best friend, and met some lifelong friends along the way.

But as much as Mary and I would like to continue making new memories in Seattle, there’s one major challenge weighing on us: buying our first home.

We feel our backs are against the wall. We either pay a price we’re uncomfortable with, or live outside of Seattle and commute in. Faced with these options, we decided to expand our search further, to Durham, North Carolina.

In our research of the Triangle area, we found ample job opportunities in software and biotech. More importantly, we can afford a home that we can grow into for years to come.

We haven’t spent much time in Durham, so we’re making a big bet moving there. But it’s a bet we feel is worth taking. And so for now, it’s time to say goodbye, Seattle.

Onwards, to the Bull City.
